Dr. Mohammed Shamsul Islam Khan was born on 25 July 1973 at Mirzir Para in Kalamar Chhatra, Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. He grew up as a bright student. In 1989, he passed the SSC from Kalamar Chhatra High School with 1st Division. Two years later, in 1991, he completed HSC in science from Chittagong Government College, also with 1st Division. Later, he got admission to Chittagong Medical College and finished his MBBS in 2000. After that, he did his internship at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Over the years, Dr. Mohammed Shamsul Islam Khan received training in Bangladesh and abroad. In 2003, he joined the Basic Surgical Skills Course at The Royal College of Surgeons, London. In 2005, he passed BCS (Health). He also completed higher training in general surgery, orthopedics, urology, and plastic surgery. Between 2010 and 2018, he earned the FCPS in Neurosurgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.

His higher training covered almost every branch of neurosurgery—brain, spine, vascular, pediatric, endoscopic, functional, trauma, and skull-base surgery. He also gained expertise in Neuro-ICU, Neuro-Radiology, and Clinical Neurology at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
